Choosing a secure password

Modified on Wed, 3 Jan at 12:15 PM

Your password serves as the primary defence against unauthorized access to your account. It is crucial to establish a secure password to safeguard your Crestwood accounts. Although a secure password cannot ensure 100% account security, the provided guidance will assist you in taking reasonable measures to protect your account.

Minimum Password Requirements

-Must be at least 8 characters long

-Must include at least 1 number

-Must include at least 1 capital letter

-Must include at least 1 lower-case letter

-Must not include part of your first name, surname, or username

-Must not be a password you have previously used

Extra Security

To make your password even more secure, consider the following:

-Do not use personal details such as dates of birth, family member names, pet names etc

-Use at least 1 special character (such as ,./@#;?!\+-*)

-Do not use obvious or commonly used words such as 'password'

-Generally speaking, the longer your password is, the harder it is to guess and the harder it is for a computer to crack. However, you should of course consider that a very long password is easy to mistype, and may be harder to remember.

-A good proven method for creating a strong password is to choose 4 unrelated words from the dictionary and string them together, and making sure to include capital letters, numbers, and symbols. You can even try changing some letters to numbers that are somewhat similar in appearance. For example, 'Action', 'Staff', 'Faint', 'Craft'. Combining them and adding numbers and symbols would be something like 'Act1on5taffFa1ntCraft!#'
